What's New No Comment

live-streaming-meerkat-periscope

Fierce competition prevails in social media.Twitter is a micro blog site. It has spearheaded micro blogging. Most of its users are celebrities. With small micro messages, it captivated big markets. Celebrities with a busy lifestyle can send quick short messages. They enchant their fans by texting on Twitter. They engage them by being active on Twitter. Happening news can be announced. It brings in a quick note as easy as an SMS. Its versatility on mobile devices makes it much adorable. Since inception, Twitter has become a buzz word. Its text messaging is much faster than any other social sites.

The Tough Fight Between Twitter And Meerkat Is On!

Twitter acquired Periscope for video streaming. Since then it has been promoting it aggressively. It is waging an open war with the competition. Its competitor Meerkat is a victim of Twitter marketing. Twitter asks its celebrities to use its live streaming service. Further, it is vocal to ask them to stop using Meerkat. The social streaming is a battle field. It has many players trying to eat the pie. Twitter with Periscope want to beat down Meerkat. It even reaches to the extent of stopping its Amplify service on Meerkat. It strives down to the monopoly road of its streaming and tweeting service. Twitter pushes its customers to shut downthe Meerkat usage. It strategizes Meerkat as a dying streaming service. It enables its positioning for celebrities and publishers to launch using Periscope.

Meerkat on the other hand is a tough competitor for Twitter. It has been attracting twitter customers to its live streaming service. Meerkat app is being rejuvenated to make the streaming faster and better. This aims in stiffening the competition with Twitter. As the battle goes on, the statistics reveal that Twitter is winning the race. On the Apple platform, Twitter has seen a 0.3% growth than Meerkat 0.2% reach to the users. This market is captivated in the last quarter. Twitter with its aggressive reach to customers, is winning the streaming market. Twitter has been roping content to win this race. It entices various resources from marketing, engineering and industries. It is poised to throw content to its streaming service to take on Meerkat.

Meerkat’s response so far has been lukewarm. It has been launching anti tactic strategy to defend its position. It is not as aggressive as Twitter. Further Twitter’s social reach outperforms Meerkat’s service. Social content is far reaching than video streaming. Twitter with is content streaming is geared to pin itself. Twitter went to the extent of cutting off Meerkat from its social graph. While Twitter and Meerkat heads on to take the streaming race, they have to deal with other competitors. Video streaming like YouNow is widely prevalent. Most of the celebrities use YouNow to broadcast their contents. Capturing the pie from the established competitors will be a tough game for both Twitter and Meerkat. Twitter is banking on its video strategy to steer its growth. And periscope is a great potential for it to boost its revenues. This also has given Twitter a facelift from the traditional textual sharing to visual sharing. With its change in sharing strategy, Twitter is positioned to take on the world and not just Meerkat.

Facebook Acquires Shopping Search Engine, TheFind

What's New No Comment

facebook

Facebook has finally announced its procurement of the consumer driven website, TheFind, on March 13, 2015. This recent purchase has just proved the new direction that Facebook is heading to – connecting people to products. This is a bold move that might just help the eCommerce sector all around the world. Just imagine a billion people being linked to the products that they wish to buy at the best price available.

TheFind also announced through their website of the changes that will happen on that same Friday. The title of the announcement was clear and direct to the point. It states, “We are joining Facebook!” When TheFind was originally launched in 2006, its vision was to provide a search engine that linked consumers to different eCommerce websites and enabled consumers to compare prices. TheFind’s search engine also had a geographical locator that will automatically link consumers to products that are sold locally. Now that Facebook has purchased TheFind, the latter’s search engine will cease to exist and instead transition to Facebook through its ads. Thus the announcement at TheFind’s website, “Key members of our team are joining the company and will be working hard to integrate our technology to make the ads you see on Facebook every day better and more relevant to you.”

TheFind-App-Store

The promise to connect people to products will now be made true through the Facebook ads. Each personal Facebook account will have featured Facebook ads that are directly connected to TheFind’s product finder. The Facebook ads that will appear on every Facebook account will be dependent on the Facebook likes the account owner has clicked on. In effect, every Facebook account will have personalized Facebook ads according to the user’s interests. This is actually very smart of Facebook. What they are trying to figure out now is how to make the system work with no glitches. Facebook has actually been trying to perform some tests regarding online purchases and online credits. This dates as far back as July 2014, but never did Facebook make any huge step towards eCommerce until almost a year after.

Everyone is now anticipating the new changes that will soon unfold in Facebook. Analysts predict that this move will really boost both local and international retailing companies. It will likewise change the mindset of Facebook users from being purely social to something commercial. People now will spend the same amount of time on Facebook but will transition from who’s available online to what’s available online. Soon this online marketing scheme will evolve to an offline scheme, which will enable people to see what’s available even if they do not have a direct connection online.

It is going to be an exciting year for Facebook which has yet again set another milestone in the digital world. It does continue to rebrand and reshape which will make its competitors stay on their toes. It is really true that Facebook is the current leader in terms of online innovation and it will surely stay at pole position in the coming years to come.

Twitter Buys Periscope

What's New No Comment

March has been a month when giant website bigwigs bought out smaller yet upcoming websites or apps.  Twitter has been one of those bigwigs.  Recently, it has been announced by Twitter of its purchase of Periscope, a new livestream video application.

periscope-01

It has been assumed that the former’s purchase of the latter is to respond to the fast-growing competitor, Meerkat.  Until now, no announcement of how much the deal between the two companies has been made. However it has been confirmed that the actual purchase really took place maybe even earlier than March.  Some reports even say that the purchase dates back January 2015.

In a post written by Twitter’s product Vice President, Kevin Weil, he tweeted “Excited to officially welcome @periscopeco to the Twitter team. Can’t wait for everyone to see what they’ve built!”  Kevin Weil tweeted this on the same day both parties announced of the big union which was on March 13, 2015. On the very same day, Periscope also announced via Twitter that states “You may have heard some news. It involves a blue bird.”  Oddly, this was also the same day when Facebook announced of its recent purchase as well.  What a big day for these two social media big shots!

Speculations as to why Twitter has not purchased the more known and more up and coming application, Meerkat, are yet to be answered by Twitter. Nevertheless everyone is looking forward to the official launch of Periscope vis-a-vis it’s tie up with Twitter. Twitter users are now expecting to be able to upload longer livestreamed videos and allow their friends to view and react to it.   The upside of Periscope over Meerkat is that videos uploaded through Periscope are saved even for later viewing, while videos uploaded via Meerkat must be viewed live. Once you pass the chance to see it, you can no longer view it again.

twitter-periscope-01

Ultimately, Twitter shows the social media world that it is still very much present and strong. Also, they want the world to know of the direction that they are taking. Not too long ago Twitter bought Vine, which is a similar yet much limited product to Periscope. Despite its limitations, it became an instant hit especially to the younger demographics. Now with their purchase of Periscope, Twitter is taking a giant leap towards livestreamed videos. We can only expect a larger reception from all Twitter users around the globe.

Some have given positive reactions to this purchase while others are still keeping raising their eyebrows. Whatever the reactions have been, it is pretty certain that Twitter will make this new purchase work and will make it even stronger; although Twitter still has a big chunk of work to do because Periscope is still in beta. This means that they have to create a new technology if they want Periscope to be directly linked to Twitter.

Otherwise, it can just be left in beta but Periscope has to thrive on its own like the previous purchase Vine. Let’s wait for what Twitter has to announce soon.

Amazon Begins Webstore Phaseout

What's New No Comment

amazon-webstore-logo

James Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon, has received quite a number of accolades for the success of his eCommerce brainchild Amazon.com in 1994. Not long after the boom of his online bookstore business, James quickly branched out his business and opened his doors to third party suppliers. After 16 years of leading the eCommerce niche, Amazon has yet again launched a new online innovation –  the Amazon Webstore. Catering to small and medium sized business, Amazon Webstore is a cheap solution to achieve online success.  For just $79 per month and less than 3% of sales charges, small to medium sized business owners can put the fate of their website and products on the hands of the giant.

With just barely 5 years of operations, things starting spiralling down for Amazon Webstore clients which led Amazon to the decision of slowly phasing out Amazon Webstore.

Even on their website the announcement was straightforward: The Amazon Webstore service, an eCommerce solution to build your standalone website, is no longer available new sellers. If you are a current Webstore seller and have questions or need assistance, please visit our FAQs or contact us.”

Credit: zdnet.com

Credit: zdnet.com

That announcement alone signals an end to what was supposed to be the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for small to medium sized business owners.

For current Webstore sellers, Amazon sent them an email stating that the sellers will be given a 15-month window to transfer to another similar platform. In addition, Amazon Webstore vows to assist current Webstore sellers transition to other similar platforms.  A Webstore seller, MarketingLand.com, said it has received a nemail from Amazon Webstore stating that the online platform will end its operations on July 1, 2016. Furthermore, Amazon Webstore encourages sellers to prepare for the inevitable change and to start exporting their data to the new platform they are transferring to.

Interestingly there have been mixed reactions towards the closing of Amazon Webstore from the sellers’ point of view. Some sellers feel that ‘it is just about time’ that Amazon Webstore stop operations while other sellers are still at a loss of what step to take.  According Peter Sheldon, an eCommerce analyst, Amazon Webstore is just sucking the life out of small-medium sized businesses. He said that since all the products sold by the Webstore sellers appear in one big platform, the small sellers do have a hard time gaining leverage over big players, such as Amazon itself.  Buyers usually choose the cheaper yet similar product which almost always is offered by Amazon and not by the small sellers.  The underlying message being sent across here is that Amazon just stepped on the small feet of these sellers to gain that competitive advantage.

Whatever the real reason is behind the closure of Amazon Webstore one thing remains clear –  the more than $30B value of Amazon was not even dented by the letdown of one of its by-products. Closing Amazon Webstore might even do well for both Amazon and the small-medium sized businesses. It will be good for Amazon because it can reassign budget spent from Amazon Webstore to another more profitable branch of Amazon. Moreover, it will be good for the small players because it can learn to stand on its own and innovate independently instead of just putting their business’s fate on the hands of another company.

80% Of HTTPS URLs Not Displaying In Google’s Search Results

What's New No Comment

Credits: blog.combell.com

Lately, there was a new small-scale analysis done and it showed that over 80 percent of the HTTPS URLs do not show up in search results in Google. This statement was revealed by Gary Illyes, who is a Google webmaster trends analyst. Many of these HTTPS URLS are actually eligible for indexing and yet they are displayed as HTTP URLS due webmaster configuration.

  • Illyes added that it is not possible for the URL to become canonical simply because the site owners do not give information about them. Additionally, it was reported that site users use HTTP versions in the sitemap files, in the rel-alternate-hreflang and rel-canonical elements, even if HTTPs variant works really fine. He also recommended using HTTPS if the site supports them since Google has given ranking to HTTPs since August.
  • Illyes also shared a simple analysis that Google used on HTTPS URLs. The analysis proved that 80 percent of these HTTPS URLs were indeed eligible for Google search result listings. He explained further though, that these were not included because of the canonicalization of the HTTP version by the webmaster. It was not reported though if that was accidental or done on purpose.

It is Google’s intention to show the HTTPS variant, although if one want the Http version to be communicated Google instead, it is also possible. The configuration is the main reason why 80 percent of the eligible HTTPS URLs are not shown in Google search result listings. Again it was emphasized that it was not Google’s fault that HTTP version still shows.

To further explain this issue it is best to understand that the recent analysis performed showing that over 80 percent of HTTPS URLs being eligible for indexing (meaning these have no noindex and no crawl issues, thus all is good) cannot be canonicalized because the site owners do not tell Google about them. Again site owners are just using the HTTP version even if the HTTPS URLs version is working just fine.

This could only mean that the choice is actually on the website owners. All they need to do is to let Google know more about their HTTPS URLs and then everything will be alright. When this happens, the 80 percent of HTTPS URLs not showing on Google search result listings before are going to be canonicalized so that they will show on the search engine’s result.

They are now part of the Diastasis Rehab business team after working with them almost a year now. I cannot even imagine having another company managing my Presta shopping cart. After a bad experience with a programmer, I needed a new programmer (one that knew prestashop shopping cart) and most important one that I could trust. Finding all three was a difficult process! Lucky for me I found them. I cannot say enough about the diversity of services that this company provides. Every step of the way they make amazing suggestions to increase my sales and they get back to be right away either by email or phone. They have even created a simple and easy check out program for Presta Shop. They are actually a one stop shop! They updated my SSL, are setting up and changing my server to a dedicated one, setting up streaming of my DVD, website design, creating a specific program for address verification on Presta cart and handled the integration of Presta cart with my fulfillment house. I am now working on developing an APP with them
